On our way to the tube we stumbled over a combination of vintage shop/coffee shop/book store. While the girls were looking for some new/old clothes I sat down in one of the old leather sofas and had a look into the art books. Coincidentally I found a book of a great british artist David Shrigley. I had seen his drawings on blogs and just saw an interview of him and realized he seems to be a very nice person. You are right: a kid could have done these simple and childish sketches of objects and people doing strange things, but he adds some very funny sentences to his drawings. Have a look at his work or ask me for the book. You may not like the “art” but you have to admit its quite funny! ;)

I wasn’t prepared for London, had no idea where to go. So i just started walking wherever it seemed interesting… until I was in front of the Tate Britain. Most of it classical art but also some nice new works: There was one painting made with soooo much paint (really extreme but the image wasn’t that interesting), a bizarre lamp going on and off and a video of people coming out of the arriving-gate at the airport accompanied by dramatic classic music.

I kept walking along the river until I came to a park with lots of animals: pelican, ducks, swans and squirrels and some british people feeding them. The squirrels were so confiding they even climbed me thinking they would get some peanuts! :)

Big Ben, Buckingham Palace and some more parks later I found myself in a german christmas market… but ate a yummy english “Big Angus Gourmet Burger”! Its really strange to see the british enjoying all these german things: mould wine, beer, bratwurst…

Then I coincidently came to the Victoria and Albert Museum with a wonderful exhibition about the “Power of Making”. One of the best and most interesting exhibitions I have visited in the past month/years. Regrettably it wasn’t allowed to take pictures. It actually wasn’t that big but the curated works were really great! All kinds of works, just have a look at the video and their website to get an impression. http://vimeo.com/29842222 - http://www.vam.ac.uk/content/exhibitions/power-of-making/

Afterwards I took the plane to Madrid to visit my cousin (Leon) from Mexico, he is doing his Master (analyzing mangrove swamps in Mexico) in Madrid.

On our trip to London we just had about 5 hours. We decided to go to the Tate Modern Museum and afterwards to the Camden High Street. We rushed trough the museum and found one piece that really fascinated me: a conceptual photography work recording blood-lines and their related stories.. really great, watch the work-interview: http://channel.tate.org.uk/media/974388916001%5D Then we spend like half an hour in the shop, actually almost always the most interesting part in art museums.

At the Camden High Street, full of curious shops with big figures on their walls, I had yummy peruvian dish! :)

Definitely to short but I am sure there will be another day to see even more of London..
