On my penultimate day in England I drove once again to London for the final MakeSense workshop we won at the Global Service Jam some weeks ago. We presented our Snapbook concept to several people from the MakeSense network: social entrepreneurs, comedians, software-developers, designers, psychologists etc. Mike, a really cool, funny and very capable staff from MakeSense guided us through this brainstorm session. The challenge we were trying answer was:

(Can’t remember, will update soon) Brand, compelling, community, create, around, …

We created dozens of crazy, funny and honest ideas - the most important thing at this stage > no judgement! After that we organized all the ideas, we created small groups and quickly developed concepts improving the experience for the Snapbooks. After just two hours we gained a lot of useful feedback, new ideas and effective criticism. We will definitely keep working on Snapbooks and hopefully start testing the first prototypes this summer in several cities including London, Beijing, Köln and Berlin. Here is a small video with 3 of my teammates about our experience at the Global Service Jam, the MakeSense workshop and what we’ve learned. I seem really nervous moving in the chair all the time^^.. I was so excited :D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kL9szFcGrxM

Nadine, another graphic design colleague from the my class at the Lette-Verein which also is doing a similar exchange/internship project in London, came with us to the centre. We came across magmabooks, a book store  chain focused on design. This little shop was filled with hundreds of high quality design books and magazines! We probably stayed there about an hour flipping through all the books we’d love to have someday in our shelf. Surprisingly we, 3 graphic designers, left the store without buying anything. They just had so many great books we couldn’t decided which one to buy… and because of the space on our flight back to germany… and the money too! ;)

After buying the stuff for AUB we went to the Camden Market. This time we had a closer at the Stables Market which is the biggest part/market of Camden. It mainly offers clothes and furniture but also this awesome Neon-Night-Lights-Shop with really loud techno music!

On monday I met with friends at the best Bagel Bakery in town! :)

From there we headed to the centre to meet the others and buy some stuff for the AUB project.

On our way to the tube we stumbled over a combination of vintage shop/coffee shop/book store. While the girls were looking for some new/old clothes I sat down in one of the old leather sofas and had a look into the art books. Coincidentally I found a book of a great british artist David Shrigley. I had seen his drawings on blogs and just saw an interview of him and realized he seems to be a very nice person. You are right: a kid could have done these simple and childish sketches of objects and people doing strange things, but he adds some very funny sentences to his drawings. Have a look at his work or ask me for the book. You may not like the “art” but you have to admit its quite funny! ;)
